I’m in Community College right now, and I’m studying network security. And after I graduate I was planning on doing a CISCO certification and a Microsoft certification..and I was wondering can someone give me some information on the like. How important are they, what do they consist of and what’s the prices of the exams??

Cisco exams typically cost about $225 USD.
As far as importance of certifications, that depends who you ask. Certs are supposed to provide some assurance to an employer that you can do what you claim on your resume, and many employers still value this. However, with the various brain dumps out there and the like, cheating your way through a Cisco cert is as easy as memorizing some text. Despite this, having certifications is better than not, in my opinion.
Microsoft & Cisco? And you want to do Security? Why the Microsoft? It’s relevant to knowing the servers you’re protecting, but if you’re playing with firewalls and such, your Cisco Certified Security Professional or Certified Ethical Hacker certs are a better target.
The CCNA is the de facto place to start, in my opinion, as it is the most common and known cert out there, and teaches you many basic networking fundamentals.

One microsoft exam gives u MCP , 4 exams give u MCSA
